INTERNATIONAL AND INTERDISCIPLINARY EXCHANGE

 

A central objective of enuntiatio.praefatio.formulae is to create sustained exchange among artistic researchers working across different cultural, disciplinary, methodological, educational, and institutional contexts.

 

Artistic research is not a unified field. Its meanings and expectations differ across conservatories, art schools, universities, independent practices, festivals, research institutions, doctoral programs, and national academic cultures.

 

Methods considered self-evident in one context may be unfamiliar or contested in another. Terms such as artistic research, practice-based research, practice-led research, research-creation, practice as research, and arts-based inquiry carry distinct histories and institutional implications.

 

The residency does not seek to eliminate these differences by imposing a universal vocabulary. It creates a setting in which participants can compare how their projects are framed, evaluated, documented, and communicated across contexts.

 

International exchange is understood as a process of translation, negotiation, and mutual examination rather than the passive representation of cultural difference.

 

Participants are encouraged to explain the assumptions of their own research environments while remaining open to methods and forms of knowledge that may not conform to familiar disciplinary expectations.

 

Interdisciplinary exchange is approached with similar care. Bringing different fields together does not automatically produce meaningful research. Productive interdisciplinarity requires participants to identify which concepts, methods, or materials are being transferred, how their meanings change in new contexts, and where genuine incompatibilities remain.

 

The program’s duration allows relationships to develop through repeated engagement rather than brief encounter. Participants encounter projects at several stages, observe their transformation, and contribute to processes of clarification, testing, and revision.

 

The residency aims to foster relationships that remain consequential beyond the immediate program and may generate future research, publications, performances, exhibitions, institutional partnerships, or collaborative projects.
